Mother and child citizenship application

My wife and son are both currently on ILR. I understand that my son can only apply for British citizenship if his mother has citizenship.
Is it possible to make both applications online simultaneously? Or does my wife have to apply first and wait for her citizenship before making the application for my son?

If I make an application online on behalf of my wife and child, will I have to attend the documents check at Sheffield along with them?

No, they can attend on their own.
