Can a friend who is a GP in the UK be a referee?

Hi guys
Apologies if this topic has been discussed before.
I realised that doctors are not on the list of professionals that can be referees. I've read contradicting information as to whether or not this list is exhaustive.
I have a friend from Uni (in UK) who is now a GP (in UK)- can she be my professional referee?
Please can someone clarify with some valid reference? Thank you in advance

Also, for your second referee who is a professional, do they have to be currently working or can they be a retired professional?
thank you guys

You only need ONE professional referee of any nationality. The other referee must be over 25 and British only.

Hi
I understand that. But my question is can the professional referee be a doctor? Even if it’s not on the list?

The list is not exhaustive and read in below link why they are not on the list.

Yes a GP is a professional. GP practices don’t like completing ID verification etc but if the GP is your friend that’s different.
