Citizenship for spouse after ILR

Hi,

Here is the summary of our circumstances:
  • I got my British citizenship in March 2021
  • My wife has been living with me in UK (tier 2 dependent) since April 2018 and just got her ILR
We read that spouses of British citizens can apply for naturalization straightaway after getting ILR. However my own British citizenship (since March 2021) is 2 years old, so we want to confirm if the law also states that British spouse needs to have been a citizen for longer.

Thanks in advance for your help.

NO - You just need to be British at the time wife applies.

Thanks so much for the response. So it means we can apply straightaway, right, even though she just got her ILR? Sorry for asking the obvious again but 1300 quid at stake :)

Yes, she can, provided sher meets all the requirements based on 3 years residence, including being physically present exactly 3 years ago when she applies.
