Depends on what you're using your friend for. Not sure your friend qualifies as a professional referee, but he/she surely can qualify form "other", if friend is British and over 25 years of age.

My personal opinion is if he works for a well known organisation , or governments will be ok, but you need to consider the list that HO provides as professional stands! Becouse in the list for any profession it says recognised company etc …
