Hello, I have problem and difficult in finding suitable referee. I know relative cannot be my referee, but what is the definition of relative in this case? How far / near of a relative can be a referee? Or ALL relative cannot be my referee?
Just take some example:
1. my uncle's wife (aunt-in-law) / my aunt's husband (uncle-in-law)
2. wife of my uncle/aunt's son / husband of my uncle/aunt's daughter (I don't know how to call such relationship)
It seems they are both far relatives, not directly to me even to blood / marriage relationship. So, I did think to choose them as my referee if possible.
Please help. Thanks.

What will your relatives state as to how they know you?
Do you have issues finding suitable professional referees? Have you checked this list (page 25): ‘Acceptable professional persons’

A relative is anyone who is related to you through either blood line or marriage line.
You will need to find alternative referees.

You may be deprived of British citizenship if it is found to have been obtained by fraud, false representation or the concealment of any material fact.
An individual in the UK who has been deprived of their British citizenship no longer has any UK immigration status - they might be granted permission to stay or steps can be taken to remove them from the UK. If they are overseas, they cannot re-enter the UK using a British passport.

Hello all, thanks for the replies. Sorry as I didn't say clearly...
I am still considering choose referee and I haven't made any steps yet.
I would like to find the definition of "relative" in this case. As I know, bases on some law such as Family Act, the term "relative" defines narrowly and only to some nearest relative. In fact I cannot find the definition of "relative" in legal term as it may be defined a little bit differently in different law / act.
And I may have difficulties in finding suitable referee, especially as it requires they know me personally more than 3 years, I would try to increase the number of choice to have higher flexibility.
Thank you.
