Hi,

Should we cancel Indian passport prior to applying British passport? as point2 below says non cancelled passport but some friends are saying they cancelled it .So slightly confused now.

It says the following documents to be sent.

1.naturalisation or registration certificate
2.any current or expired passports from other countries that haven’t been cancelled
3.if this applies, any court orders relating to the child (for example that describe parental responsibility or residency arrangements)

Is it enough to send the birth certificate for point3?

You do NOT need to cancel your passport before applying for a British passport.

No. 3 only "if it applies" that is if a court order is in place, otherwise child's birth certificate showing parents' names is sufficient.

Also it’s written to send the BRP card back to an address. Should we first do that and then apply for passport.Or I can do it parallely by sending the documents for passport in 1 post and BRP cards in another post at the same time?

These are two totally separate things. You have to send the BRP card back within 5 days after your ceremony whether you apply for a British passport or not!!

Don,t cancel your Indian before getting your British passport for the reasons below:

1. When you apply British Passport you need to submit your current Indian passport for identity verification
2. When surrendering your Indian passport you need to provide your British Passport details in the surrender form.
