MN1 (registration) application and travel

i have received my ilr earlier this year and would like to register my child (born apr2022).

we have a family trip planned and paid in december and back in january. It is roughly 5-6 months from now, which sounds about right based on the home office guidelines. However looking at this thread i see some applications were decided within 2-3 months too.

If i was to receive a decision in Oct or Nov, would i still be able to depart in Dec and enter UK with original BRP that my child has as it is still valid until 2024.

Thank you

1. Please do not post questions in the timeline only threads. Post split to its own topic.

2. If you receive approval and the certificate, you should apply for a British passport for the child. You can use the one week fast track service for children. The BRP becomes invalid once the child becomes British.

I should have mentioned that we would like to apply for passport at a later stage. In that case, would that still be an issue to depart UK after citizenship decision has been made?

P.S. apologies for posting in wrong place

Technically, you would still be able to use BRP to travel to UK from abroad as a way to show your status to the airline and you can explain the situation at the border with naturalization certificate. However, I am not sure if there are any penalties about not returning a child's BRP - one of the forum members mentioned being fined after not returning BRP in time.

Also, as child would need a valid passport to travel, if child's original nationality doesn't permit dual citizenship, passport will not be valid either immediately after registration has commenced or soon after.

It's best to apply for a passport and get one before the trip.
