Expired BRP + Citizenship application

Hello,

A friend has allowed their brp to expire in January but wishes to apply for citizenship.

Her husband is wary of throwing good money after bad. I've read on here and elsewhere the ILR is still valid and she just needs a valid current passport to apply for citizenship and the brp is irrelevant.

However, saying some people on an immigration website is not really cutting it for the friend's husband. Can anybody please point me to where it is written somewhere officially stating it's okay to apply with an expired BRP.

Thanks:-)

You might not easily find something that directly points you in that direction. ILR is a status and the BRP just confirms it for whomever needs to see it.

Picture this, your citizenship doesn't expire if your passport expires! The valid passport just confirms it for whomever.

But if the husband isn't OK with it, then they can go apply for a renewal. That could take 6 months (February 2024) and would have an expiry date of 10 months (December 2024).

An expired BRP can be used in support of the application.
