Registering child as British Citizen (MN1)

Hi all,

I'm in the process of making an application to register my first daughter as British. Background, my wife (than Girlfriend) and I came to the UK in Jan 2012 as EU citizen from the Netherlands for study. My wife went on to do her PhD and I started my career in the UK, we bought a house, got married and had our first child in the UK in Dec 2015.

Time went on and we had two more children in 2018 and 2021, who were born British and have a British passport and all. Based on my understanding, my wife and I both got ILR or Permanent resident status in 2017 due to being in the UK for 5 years under treaty rights. This became Settled Status in 2019, including for my eldest daughter.

I understand my eldest daughter has not been born British and for her to receive the British nationality we need to make an application using the MN1 form. This is correct right (before I spend over £1k+).

Regarding the MN1 form, I have a couple of questions. Firstly, they ask if my daughter already has a passport. She has a Dutch passport indeed, and whilst I'm happy to provide the passport if needed, the timelines of 6+ months frighten me a bit as we do want to travel to NL to visit family/ elderly grandparents. As far as you can say, will they request her current passport and do they keep it until the application is completed?

There is also a question around when my daughter received settled status. Would that be her outcome date, the date she turned 5 or when she was born?

Final question is around when the parents became settled, again is that Jan 2017 or when we got our settled status outcome?

Thanks for taking the time to read my post!
Robin

Correct yes.

No originals are submitted. You must use the online MN1 form to apply and all supporting documents are uploaded digitally.

The date she was granted Settled Status.

The date she was granted Settled Status.

Brilliant, thanks for the quick reply and answers.

One final follow up question if I may. The final (and confusing) question before information about referees is
Are you relying on your parent's permanent residence (either as an EEA National or the family member of an EEA National) as evidence of their settled status in the United Kingdom?

I assumed that would be a No, since our evidence is in the fact that we have received Settled Status under the EUSS rules, so we don't have to use PR as our evidence. Is that correct, especially based on the fact that my wife and I only received our Settled status in 2020 and 2019 respectively, whereas technically we have had PR since 2017. So for the period where my wife and I had PR but not yet the EU Settled Status, does the application rely on our PR as evidence of our status?

Thanks again!
