8 days since application for first adult passport was approved- it's still not printed

The Passport Office told me it takes 24-48 hours following approval to print the passport, and couldn't quite say what was causing the delay. Has anyone here been in this situation? What did you do?
It's been more than a week since approval but no sign of the passport being printed or sent.

Anybody's guess why the delay, maybe the print queue has failed, or the system isn't updating, etc etc. Not much comfort if you are waiting to go on a trip, but maybe a few more days waiting?

Hi

Thank you for replying to me.

I have to travel as soon as possible because I have to visit a family member who has been in hospital for several days. But from what I understand, it's not possible to fast track the application, even if proof of illness, etc is provided?

Perhaps if you could explain again to the HMPO helpline and try ask for a senior manager who might be able to move this on urgently? Sorry to hear this a doubly stressful. Hope it works out or turns up soon.

Thank you.
I'll try again tomorrow.
I've been using the online chat feature but I haven't received much advice or help there.

Had another question: does Royal Mail send a text or an email when the passport is handed over to them?

Also, I paid an additional amount for the return of documents using secure delivery. Will the Passport Office send them back using Royal Mail? If so, will I receive a tracking number?
Thank you.

Note that HMPO do further checks for a first British passport application, which is why it can't be fast tracked.
Once the application had been through its checks and approved, it would then take a couple of days to be printed and sent across.
The clock of 2-3 days does not start at application, but at approval, which can take a few weeks.
When I had applied for my first British passport, it had taken about two months, though that was when it was a paper application and a face-to-face interview was also required. Both those requirements have gone, but I presume that there are other checks going on in the background.

OP said their passport has been approved, so it should have been printed by now. Hopefully they work it out quickly, fingers crossed

Thank you for all the help.
Someone that I spoke to at the Passport Office said that they are looking into what's caused the issue.
Also, yes, my passport was approved and I got an email saying it is going to be printed, but there have been no updates after this.

I returned the BRP to Croydon even though initially I was hoping to retain it until I got my passport.

I sent it recorded delivery but wanted to know if HO will confirm receipt by email?

I don't think there have been reports here of UKVI acknowledging returned BRPs.
They are destroyed I expect, and I thought the instruction was to send the card cut-up?

Yes, on Gov.uk it said to cut into 4 pieces, which I did before sending it to Croydon with a cover letter.

I personally have returned five different BRPs since I'm living in the UK - including duplicates that the HO issued by mistake - and never received an email with a receipt confirmation.

I don't know anyone who has received such email, don't think the HO do that.

Once a new status is received, you just cut the card in pieces, send it and forget about it.

Thank you for the replies.

Somehow the online right to work/rent check is still working despite the citizenship application being approved?

I don't think there's an integrated process between immigration and nationality - I'd be amazed if there was (they flick the switch and you disappear off immigration....). The two are different processes under different rules and regulations.
