Dear board members,

I am posting this on behalf of a friend. My friend and his family has settled status via EU settlement scheme. He wants to apply for her daughter's naturalisation. His daughter is under 18 years of age. Can he do that for only her daughter? If yes, would there be a different fee than to an adult application?

Children under 18 are registered as British citizens on form MN1. Naturalisation is for adults.
The fee is £1215. Yes, the child alone can apply. The fee is fixed whether child applies on her own or with the family.

Can she be registered as British Citizen even she was not born in UK and her parents only got EU Settled status recently?

Children born outside the UK also get registered via MN1. They are expected to have ILR (settled status) which I believe is the case here.

Children born outside the UK can be registered as a British citizen if
(a) the child and both parents have settled status/ILR AND
(b) the child and parents have lived in the UK for at least a year after getting settled status/ILR.

We are bit stuck to the following as to what should we select as none of the options seem to be relevant for her;

Choose which category to apply under. You are a child under 18 and:

Selected ->You were born outside the UK

-Your parent is British by descent and lived in the UK or a British Overseas territory for at least 3 years before you were born

-Your parent is British by descent and you and your parents (unless they are legally separated) are now living in the UK or a British Overseas territory

-You were born on or after 13 January 2010 and your parent was serving in the UK armed forces

- You were adopted abroad by British citizen parents

- You were born before 1 July 2006 to a British father and your parents were not married

- One or both of your parents is applying for British citizenship

- Other - apply at the discretion of the Home Secretary

I think it should be “other”, at the discretion of the Home Secretary.
