My son was born outside UK. We applied Certificate of an entitlement to the right of abode which was granted.
He entered UK and now we are looking to apply his British passport. I have looking for information on how to cancel Certificate of Entitlement before applying British Passport.
I have read that while certificate of entitlement to the right of abode is valid and stamped on foreign passport, British passport can not be issued.

If son applies for a British passport the CoE-ROA becomes invalidated by passport, you can't hold both as British citizen. I stand corrected if I'm wrong of course, please provide the passage from the regulations.

We don’t want to hold both. We just want British passport. Question still remain.
Do we need to cancel first COE ROA by filling out a form or we just apply British passport and they will cancel itself?

Not aware of need for cancelling, apply for BP and include foreign passport containing the CoE-ROA, plus any other documents HMPO request.

You have to send in current passport(s) when applying for British one - I suppose they'll cancel it.

No you don't have to do anything. You just apply for a British passport.

Getting BC more like automatically invalidates the CoE ROA as you can be both at same time.
