Inquiry Regarding Citizenship Application and Overseas Job Opportunity

Hi All,

Approximately a month ago, I submitted my biometrics and citizenship application to the Home Office. Since then, I have been presented with a compelling job opportunity overseas. Given the circumstances, I am inclined to accept this overseas position and relocate from the UK.

I am reaching out to understand the potential implications of this decision on my citizenship application. Specifically, I am interested in understanding whether accepting an overseas position and relocating would impact the residency requirement for my citizenship application.

I would appreciate any guidance or information you can provide regarding the impact of accepting an overseas position on the progression of my application.

It wouldn't as the residency requirements only apply until the day you apply - but it may impact the future intentions requirement. You have declared that you want to make the UK your home for the foreseeable future and now you are considering an opportunity abroad. Probably would be best to live and work in the UK until the application is processed and you get your certificate.

Thanks for your reply.

How about a scenario in which I go on an extended vacation, lasting more than six months?

Additionally, would maintaining my address and having a home under my name during the application not be enough to demonstrate my intention to reside in the UK?

When you applied, you agreed that you didn't intend to spend more than 6 months abroad, no matter the reason. You are going back on what you declared. Personally, I would try to defer the opportunity and not take such an extended absence. I am not aware of cases of people that have done this and be successful, but there may be - at the end of the day, it's your decision if you want to take the risk.
