Amend certificate of naturalisation or change name via deed poll

I have dual nationality and my name was spelt correctly on my Nigerian passport. However, on my certificate of Naturalisation there was an error and a single letter was omitted from my name, and my UK passport bears that name. Now, this issue is causing problems and I would like to correct it but I can't find my certificate and will need to replace this first AND apply for a correction which could be a very long process. However, I just read about changing my name via deed poll to align with my Nigerian passport by adding back the missing letter and I would like some advice on the best way forward please.

You will need a duplicate of your naturalisation certificate either way, so I would suggest applying for that. After you have it you can decide how to change your name so that all your documents match. Hard to comment on best way forward as I don't know the costs/time involved if you needed to change your name on your Nigerian passport.

Thanks for the response. My name on my Nigerian passport is the correct spelling. During the naturalisation process they didn't spell my name correctly they omitted a letter. Cheers

The deed poll could be the option fastest

You should have had their corrected as soon as you received your certificate.
It would have been done free of charge.

If you want your name to be corrected on the certificate you need to obtain a new one and then get it corrected before you can apply for a British passport in the correct name. It will take some time and there will be costs associated - if you had flagged your certificate spelt your name incorrectly they would have done it for free, but now you need to pay to get the duplicate and then also pay to apply for correction.
