Naturalisation application

Hi everyone,

I have a few questions about the naturalisation application.

The form is asking us to declare previous immigration applications, which is confusing as one would assume this information is already in their system.

Do I need to add all past UK visa applications (including tourist and student visas) regardless of how old they are? I first came to the UK as a tourist in 2007 for 1 month, left and came back again for a language course in 2010. I applied for an ECAA visa before my student visa ended, but it got rejected, so I returned to Turkey. After finding a master’s course, I applied for a student visa and returned to the UK in 2012. I completed my master’s, married my wife (an EU citizen) in 2014, and applied for a family member of an EU citizen visa, eventually receiving indefinite leave as part of the EU settlement scheme.

Am I expected to find reference numbers for all these historic applications and include them in the application? I don’t remember if my finger prints were scanned for all of them. I don’t even know where my expired passports are.

If there’s a visa rejection in our history, does it affect the naturalisation application? In 2012, I got a rejection for my ECAA application, returned to my country, and didn’t overstay. I didn’t use the option to challenge their decision in court and they later approved my master’s course application.

Lastly, I read that we should scan passport pages to show we weren’t outside the UK for too long. Do I need to scan all old UK visas and stamps from 2007 across expired passports, or is the current passport enough if it covers the last 5 years?

Thank you very much for you help.

Hi everyone,

I have a few questions about the naturalisation application.

The form is asking us to declare previous immigration applications, which is confusing as one would assume this information is already in their system. Naturalisation application is not an immigration application. They are guided and granted under different rules/acts and even if same not out of the ordinary to ask you to provide such details again.

Do I need to add all past UK visa applications (including tourist and student visas) regardless of how old they are? I first came to the UK as a tourist in 2007 for 1 month, left and came back again for a language course in 2010. If there’s a visa rejection in our history, does it affect the naturalisation application? In 2012, I got a rejection for my ECAA application, returned to my country, and didn’t overstay. This should not impact, you abide by rules, have gone on to other positive outcomes on applications.I didn’t use the option to challenge their decision in court and they later approved my master’s course application. Provide as much details as you have and or can remember.

Lastly, I read that we should scan passport pages to show we weren’t outside the UK for too long. Do I need to scan all old UK visas and stamps from 2007 across expired passports, or is the current passport enough if it covers the last 5 years? The one(s) covering the years on which the application is based is sufficient.

Thank you very much for you help.

Hi everyone,

I have a few questions about the naturalisation application.

The form is asking us to declare previous immigration applications, which is confusing as one would assume this information is already in their system. Never assume - their records are often incomplete and as said above this is not an immigration application.

I would say no need to include tourist visa.

Am I expected to find reference numbers for all these historic applications and include them in the application? I don’t remember if my finger prints were scanned for all of them. I don’t even know where my expired passports are. As advised above, find as much detail as you can remember.

If there’s a visa rejection in our history, does it affect the naturalisation application? In 2012, I got a rejection for my ECAA application, returned to my country, and didn’t overstay. I didn’t use the option to challenge their decision in court and they later approved my master’s course application. No, it will be OK.

Lastly, I read that we should scan passport pages to show we weren’t outside the UK for too long. Do I need to scan all old UK visas and stamps from 2007 across expired passports, or is the current passport enough if it covers the last 5 years? The passport that covers the last 5 years is OK.

Thank you very much for you help.

Thank you very much for your answers.

I am filling the application form and I have furher question regarding the evidences that needs to be uploaded. Do we need to ask our referees to complete and sign this form as well? This is not mentioned in the offical naturalisatoin booklet so just wanted to check if this is the correct form?
https://visas-immigration.service.gov.u ... on_MN1.pdf

Also, I have a Turkish passport and ILR biometric card. Am I suppose to send this to home office as part of the applicatoin? I am just trying to understand if I can travel after submitting the application or not.

Many thanks for your help.

https://visas-immigration.service.gov.u ... on_MN1.pdf This is the correct form and compulsory to submit.

Also, I have a Turkish passport and ILR biometric card. Am I suppose to send this to home office as part of the applicatoin? I am just trying to understand if I can travel after submitting the application or not. All documents are scanned and uploaded. No originals are submitted. You are free to travel - it's not an immigration application!

Many thanks for your help.

Yes, the form can be also filled in digitally, as far as the referee signatures are similar to what appears in the referees' passports. Everything will be scanned and uploaded, and you will retain the originals.

Do we need to upload the passport’s of the refeeres as well? Where can I find a list of all the evidences? The naturalisation booklet doesn’t have any information about the files we should upload.

No!

The AN guide and chrcklist at end of online application tells you what is required.

It is minimal documents. Passports, ilr brp, english B1, liuk.

Maybe the best thing to do is do the application... you don't have to submit it... you can complete it partially and to the point where it will tell you what evidence to supply. It's particularly useful I think to do this also to establish the information you need from your referees.

The documents required vary according to circumstances but will not include referee passports. You will need their UK passport number if they have one

Hi all,

I'm about to apply for the naturalisation applicatoin. Would it be possible to learn if we need to scan and submit our expired passort(s) as evindence? My qualified period is covered by my current passport but I had previous entries with my old passports when I had tier 2 student visa.

Many thanks.

Only the passport(s) covering the residency period is needed.
Older passports are not needed.
