Should I renew my ILR pending outcome of Naturalisation

Hi All,
I have applied for naturalisation end of Jan 24 and it I havent yet heard from the home office. I am currently on ILR and my current BRP expires on 6 June 24 (It was issued in 2014).

I am wondering what my legal status would be if I do not renew my BRP after 6 June and I havent heard from the home office on my naturalisation application before 6 June. I am assuming that once my naturalisation has been approved, I do not need to renew my BRP - Is this correct?

However, if I do not hear from the Home Office before 6 June, I am not sure what my status legally would be? In short, do i need to submit a seperate application to renew and extend my ILR BRP while my naturalisation is being processed by the Home Office?

Any advise would be very gratefully recieved. Thanks v much in advance.

The ILR status does not expire - it's the card that does.

If you don't plan to travel/leave the country, you should be fine without a card, just using online systems from HO to prove right to work/rent/etc.

ILR doesn't expire - only BRP. I suggest you apply for a new BRP while you wait for the outcome of naturalisation, as without a BRP you won't be able to prove your right to live and work in the UK and you won't be able to travel. It is a bit awkward as they are phasing them out but you still may have to wait until July to get an outcome and some applications take longer than 6 months - I would play it safe. No impact on your naturalisation application.

Thank you for your response. Greatly appreciated!

I am trying to figure out what the correct process for renewing my BRP is. The gov.uk website is pointing me to form FLR(LR) but not sure if this is the right form.
https://visas-immigration.service.gov.u ... 1714396527

Please could you help in pointing me to the correct form to fill if the above is incorrect.
Very grateful for your response!
best wishes,
YP

Go to: https://www.gov.uk/biometric-residence- ... xpired-brp

Remember you were told that ILR doesn't expire ("indefinite"), it's just the card you are renewing - not an issue for naturalisation.

Thank you very much for your response. I am thoroughly confused on whether or not i need to apply for renewing my BRP and if yes, how/where do i apply? This is doe to conflicting/unclear information i have to hand. Guidance from your end would be massively helpful!

Currently I have ILR, which I know dose'nt expire. My ILR BRP expires on 6 June 2024.

Information 1:
The link you have provided above mentions:

If your permission to stay in the UK lasts longer than your BRP
You do not need to apply for a replacement BRP.
You’ll switch to using an ‘eVisa’ instead by 31 December 2024.

This implies I do not need to renew my BRP? Is this correct?

Information 2:
I recieved an email from gov.uk to setup my UKVI Account (incorrectly stating my visa was expiring on 31 Dec 24). I have followed the instructions however and setup an evisa UKVCAS account.

When I access the 'View and Prove Immigration Status' page (link address containing: view-immigration-status.service.gov.uk/status), the status displays 'Settled' and also mentions 'There is no limit on how long you can stay in the UK.'

Information 3:
However, on my eVisa account, when I go the 'Update Account Details' link (link containing: https://update-your-details.homeoffice. ... al-details), under Personal Details, it shows my current BRP with an expiry date of 6 June 2024 (which is correct)

My confusion:
Information 1 and 2 seem to imply that I do not need to apply to renew my BRP. However, Information 3 shows my BRP expiring on 6 June 24.

I have to erred on side of caution and so have created an application using the 'Update, replace or transfer to a Biometric Residence Permit' form online. I am asked for documents to provide i was in the UK for the last 10 years (council tax letters, payslips etc. plus other documents) but shows no fees to pay.

So question:
1. Do i need to renew my BRP?
2. If yes, what is the correct link to apply for ILR BRP renewal?

Before I submit this, please can someone confirm if this is the correct path to renewing my ILR BRP?

1. You do NOT need to renew your BRP!! This has clearly been advised already. It is only the Card that expires, not your ILR status.

Even if you do apply for one, it wii take a few months and will expire on 31st December 2024 anyway as BRP cards are being phased out for the new visa system, which you already have!

You have set up an eVisa account. That is what you will use from now on to prove your status. Keep your BRP card for your records bit it will no longer be needed to prove your immigration status.
