Lost UK citizenship certificate with wrong place of birth

Hi everyone, I was about to apply for my 1st British Passport but I might have lost the certificate.
I have a found a photo of the certificate when I noticed the place of birth is wrong,
unfortunately I am past the 3 months window to inform HO of the error.
I am aware of the £400 fee for getting a new copy but not sure how to approach HO with the above.
Shall I ask and pay for a replacement copy first and then note the error or vice versa?
It is a stressful situation to be in, please if anyone can advise I would be very grateful!
