Dear Moderators/members,

We have below situation:
We (parents) are holding UK ILR
Our daughter was born in UK hence we applied for Naturalisation up on our ILR approval - naturalisation application was submitted on June 12, 2024
Assuming this can take 3-6 months for approval, we travelled to India on July 12 for school holidays
We received the certificate of British citizenship on July 20, 2024 while we are still in India
Our return date to UK is Aug 30, 2024

Question:
We can see a specific wording in the naturalisation approval email which is as below:
"Once you have received your certificate of British citizenship any Biometric Residence Permit (BRP card) you have will no longer be valid and cannot be used as evidence of your status. If you have a BRP card you should return it for secure destruction. You may have to pay a penalty of up to £1,000 if you fail to return an invalid BRP"

Does this mean that we can not travel back to UK using the current BRP my daughter holds?
As long as the BRP is valid the airline will allow your daughter to board. When you arrive at the UK border explain that your daughter is now British (and cert arrived whilst you were away). A British citizen cannot be refused entry to the UK.
If thats the case, what is the alternate option here? Is there any specific contact center or email address where I can ask this question officially to home office? No - the UKVI helpline is an outsourced service run by a third party, and not staffed by UKVI case workers. Don't worry about the fine - when home get a British passport and then return the card. The suggestions here have been made many times before and no adverse results have been reported.
