French citizen - settled - employed from 2005. British citizenship

My husband is a French citizen. He has been in full time employment since 2005 in London in investment banking.
He had his indefinite leave to remain which has recently expired in March 2024. He is settled.
How does he go ahead and apply for citizenship?
Could anyone advise pls. Does he need to take the life in UK test?

What do you it has expired? Does have an old style residence card with permanent reaidency under rhe EU rules? Or did he apply for Swttled Status? What is your uk immigrarion status?
How does he go ahead and apply for citizenship?

Does he need to take the life in UK test?
Yes, this is mandatory as Iis meeting the English requirements, either a B1 test or uk degree or ecctis assessed foreign degree.

He an old style residence card with permanent residency under rhe EU rules issued in 2014. He also holds settled status.
He studies his masters in UK so he has his degree certificate.
Does he need to renew his indefinite leave to remain or directly write the life in UK test please?

The old style EU card is now defunct - his EU Settled Status is the one that counts, he just needs to provide the reference number for this, no card required.
He studies his masters in UK so he has his degree certificate.

The "ILR" cannot be renewed and not necessary as explained. LITUK can be taken (must be pased) anytime before the AN application.

It is a very easy and straightforward application, provided he was physically in UK more than 75% of the days in last 5 years (in last 3 if you are UK citizen). He just needs to go to gov uk website and read instructions. No need to do anything about ILR card, he will just need to do Life in UK test (should be trivial for one with master degree), and submit evidence of his settled status and of UK master degree.
If he was frequently out of UK in last few years, it might become a bit more tricky - but potentially can still work out OK given that he was in UK for so long.
By the way, do you know that you can obtain french citizenship through him? No need to live in France (though you'd need to know French).
