I see on the naturalization application processing timeline thread some of them are saying they
received invitation from the council
whilst saying date of receipt of approval is pending

I am confused how is it possible, unless I am terribly missing something
can someone please clarify?

UKVI are sometimes behind with sending out the approval email.
Separately your council receives lists of approved application and their certificates, they will then send invites to the approved candidates as arranged. I know it sounds odd, but UKVI is simply slower at times than the councils. Note the UKVI email is only advisory, you are only British on receipt of your certificate.

Thanks for your response, so if we receive council invite it more or less approved application. Good to know that.

If you receive an invite from the council for the citizenship ceremony, it means your application was approved.

Some councils still ask the attendee to show their approval email at the day of ceremony. If this happens to you (receiving a council invite with no approval email from HO), call the council and they should be able to advise.

Also remember to check spam and other folders, etc.

It is approved!
The council's job is to run the ceremonies and issue certificates after you have given the oath.
