Why do we write our name, surname, and DOB on the back of the photo for the referee in the online application

Hi,
I have completed the online application for citizenship and am at the payment stage. I am confused about why we need to write name and dob the back of the photo on the printout for the referee. If we are going to upload this document online, why do we need to do this? Could I have done something wrong, or is this how it is supposed to be?

You don’t have to do that - ignore!
It’s a leftover from the paper days.

Hello!
I have the same question and if you successfully submitted and perhaps even received a response to your application, can you please advise?
I just submitted my application and now stressing about the referee declaration that instructs to attach a physical photo... I filled out all referees' details within the application - including their passport number.
Thank you!

You attached your photo to the declarations?
That's all you needed to do - nothing to write on the back of your photograph.
Have the referees signed the forms? Not sure what you are stressing about.

It's only a leftover from the old pen and paper days, the form hasn't been updated yet. I haven't signed the back of my picture (I included it digitally) and my application was accepted.

Hi, filling out the referees' details on the application form alone is not enough. The 2 Referees' Declaration Forms signed by referees with your physical passport photo attached are a requirement (photo does not need to be signed at the back). You need to upload them with the rest of your other documents before your Biometrics enrolment appointment with TLSContact on their website once you've booked your appointment if you're uploading yourself or at the appointment if paying the centre to do it for you.

Thank you!
So do I upload it with the photo attached and signed - just to be safe?
Also, do I upload photos of me ahead of the appointment? I thought they’ll take photos and fingerprints there?.. don’t want to mess up

Just stick the photo onto the form, no need to sign, not even "just to be safe" - you will be fine!
Also, do I upload photos of me ahead of the appointment?
NO!I thought they’ll take photos and fingerprints there?
YES - they'll take a photo of you... don’t want to mess up
You won't, relax!

If you have booked a Biometrics appointment with TLSContact they will ask you to upload your documents on their website ahead of your appointment, these documents should include the signed 2 Declaration forms with your photos attached so YES (the form tells you where to affix photos). If you paid to have them upload for you then you can bring your documents on the day including your passport photos attached to the declaration forms. They will take a photo on the day (and fingerprints) but that doesn't exempt the photos that should be attached to your declaration forms. Hope that's clear.
