My friend recently lost her mum, who acquired British citizenship by naturalisation.

Is there any way she can leverage her mum’s citizenship to acquire citizenship or residence rights herself? My friend is in her 30s already.

No, there isn't a route for her based on her mother if she was born before her mother became British.

Your friend will have to find their own visa they qualify for and follow the immigration journey.
