Hello experts,

My wife got her citizenship in Oct 2024. Me and my minor son's ILR is due in the first week of Feb 2025. Let's assume it's a positive outcome.

My question is - Do I have to wait for 1 year (naturalisation) from my ILR date to apply for citizenship or am i eligible to apply for citizenship as soon as I have my ILR (on the basis of my wife's recent citizenship?

Thanks for your guidance.

You can apply as soon as you have ilr, provided you meet all the requirements for an application based on 3 years residence as the spouse of British citizen.

But is it possible for my minor son as the guidelines say one has to be above 18 years of age.

Children under 18 can apply too. Just add him to your form and the form will adjust for under 18 applicant MN1.

Children are Registered as British on form MN1. Only adults 18+ are Naturalised on form AN.
