Naturalization application for my dependent child

Hello Admins,

I have gone through the guidance shared but somehow I am a bit confused or getting ambiguous answers.

My case is as below:

I obtained my ILR through a 10 year route in May 2024 and I am due for my naturalization/British Citizenship proceedings from May 2025 onwards I believe, as I am in the UK.

My wife and and my 8 year old daughter are also in the UK with me. My wife and daughter holds an Indian passport. My daughter was born in India in December 2016 and came over to the UK in September 2017 as my dependent (I was on a tier 2 ICT VISA then). I changed my VISA to Skilled worker one in March 2021 as I changed my job and my dependents i.e my wife and my daughter too changed their dependent Visas accordingly. My dependents i.e my wife and daughter have been in the UK since March 2017 till date. They have been outside UK on holidays especially to India, but not more than a continuous period of 90 days.

Question: When I apply for my naturalization/British Citizenship proceedings in May 2025, will my daughter be eligible for her ILR or British Citizenship too ? I have read the directives regarding "Discretionary applications under section 3(1)" but not able to understand them fully(pardon my ignorance). Any guidance or suggestions regarding my case would be helpful.

Children born abroad need ILR before being eligible to apply for registration.

Hi,

Sorry didnt understand, is it the case that both parents need ILR before the child can apply for naturalization, or the child needs to have ILR seperately before applying for British citizenship after a year.

The child born outside the UK needs to acquire ILR independently. until she gets ILR (which she wouldn't automatically get when you become British) she won't be eligible to apply for registration. Review this page to understand the expectations on applications under 3(1) https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... plications
