Hi Guys,
Hope everyone is doing well.
Firstly I want to say thanks for all the help and guidance provided by this forum and the users with my mrs ILR.
My mrs has been granted ILR yesterday and we have started applying for Citizenship today.
Just to confirm below are the documents I will be uploading with the case:
Copy of ILR confirmation email.
B1
Life in the UK
10 letters from 2022-2024
Marriage certificate
Tax return and yearly statement as my mrs is self employed.
2x deceleration form (referees)
Old and new passport of applicant
My (Husband) British passport.
- Please advise if there is something else I'm missing.
I also had a few questions:
My British passport is due to expire in June 2025, does my mrs needs to take my passport for biometrics?
I will be uploading my old but still in date passport with my mrs case?
My mrs is self employed, on the application it's asking for tax office reference number - is this the UTR number?
We are planning to travel abroad in May, can we travel while the case is in progress?
For refree 1 we have gone for a family friend who knows our family personally and is a GP, can I add them as referee?
Do I need to upload proof of time spent outside The Uk with stamps?
Apologies for all the questions above.
Thanks in advance!!!

What letters? Does you wife's passport get stamped?
Marriage certificate
Tax return and yearly statement as my mrs is self employed.
If she has been self employed for all these years she can just submit tax return and yearly statement for each year. no need for additional letters
2x deceleration form (referees)
Old and new passport of applicant
My (Husband) British passport.
- Please advise if there is something else I'm missing.
I also had a few questions:

No!
I will be uploading my old but still in date passport with my mrs case?
yes
My mrs is self employed, on the application it's asking for tax office reference number - is this the UTR number?
Did she select she is emplyed? Only need to supply tax reference office for your current employer.
We are planning to travel abroad in May, can we travel while the case is in progress?
ou must apply from the UK. You need to attend biometrics in the UK in person. Other than that, you can travel.
For refree 1 we have gone for a family friend who knows our family personally and is a GP, can I add them as referee?
Yes but he won't be eligible as a professional referee.
Do I need to upload proof of time spent outside The Uk with stamps?
If you have stamped passports for your wife yes upload them
Apologies for all the questions above.
Thanks in advance!!!

If she has been self employed for all these years she can just submit tax return and yearly statement for each year. no need for additional letters Thank you very much.

I have applied to renew my passport yesterday, now I'm not sure whether to wait for the new passport and enter new passport details or I can carry on with the submission of application this week with existing valid passport.
I will be uploading my old but still in date passport with my mrs case?
yes Thank you.
My mrs is self employed, on the application it's asking for tax office reference number - is this the UTR number?
Did she select she is emplyed? Only need to supply tax reference office for your current employer. Yes we have selected employees and self employed, and thanks will provide UTR number and letter.
We are planning to travel abroad in May, can we travel while the case is in progress?
ou must apply from the UK. You need to attend biometrics in the UK in person. Other than that, you can travel. Thank you very much.
For refree 1 we have gone for a family friend who knows our family personally and is a GP, can I add them as referee?
Yes but he won't be eligible as a professional referee. Now I'm not sure who to go for, gp is a family friend. I am now thinking of for professional referee to go for a director of care homes, would that be ok ? and referee 2 we have gone for another family friend who is self employed.
Do I need to upload proof of time spent outside The Uk with stamps?
If you have stamped passports for your wife yes upload them thank you very much.

You do NOT need letters for 3 years to prove residence.
You only need the applicants passport, all stamped pages.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
I have added all of the stamped pages of passport.
With all due respect, Please correct me if I am wrong but below is the information we have been asked for residence from online application.
Proof of living in the UK for ------------ for 5 years if applying in your own right or 3 years if applying as the spouse of a British Citizen
If you are married to, or in a civil partnership with, a British citizen, you must have been in the UK for the past 3 years.
If you are not married, or in a civil partnership with, a British citizen, you must have been in the UK for the past 5 years.
If you are an EEA National, you need to include letters from employers, educational establishments or other government departments, indicating your presence in the UK during the relevant 3- or 5-year period.
If you are a Non-EEA National, you need to include your passport to prove you have lived in the UK for the relevant 3- or 5-year period.
If you do not have your passport or it was not stamped when you entered the UK, you need to include letters (for example, from your employer or government department) as proof.
Bank statements or household bills are not suitable proof you have been living in the UK.

It clearly says extra documents needed only if you are an EU citizen.
It clearly says for non EU, only stamped passports.
Your wife got ILR through spousr visa route, and her passport likely gets stamped when travelling.

If you are in the process of renewing your passport I would wait to have the new one and submit the new details. It's only a week or so wait.

OMG yes, it does says that, I don't know why everyone is telling to add 3 years letters. thank you soo much.
I will create a separate PDF with entry and exit stamps to make it quicker for case worker to locate stamps.
I wanted a bit of guidance on referee, referee 1 should be a professional British/any nationality and 2 does not needs to be a professional but British.
I have 2 individuals who are ready to be referees. 1. is a GP who are family friend British and know my mrs for past 5 years and 2. director of care homes who also knows my mrs for 5 years. and for referee 2 I have added someone who is British and self employed, "how do you the referee" I have added family friend. would that be ok?

Perfect, I was thinking of that as well but best to double check with experts. Once again thank you. Anything else would you say I am missing to add on checklist?
Thanks.

If your wife is both employed and self employed she needs to provide the tax reference number of her employer not her own UTR. She can add her UTR on the cover letter.
See my other post re referees.

apologies but my mrs is only self employed and I have added her UTR number on application. if that's ok?
For good character, do I need to order her mrs DBS check or am over thinking it now?
once again thanks.

Then why did you say that you selected both employed and self employed? She needs only to select she is self employed. No need for DBS check. Does she have any FPNs or similar in her name?

Apologies for the confusion, I'm not sure why I wrote employed and self employed.
My MRs does not have any FPN's or anything similar on her name.
I was unable to find you previouse post "referees".
Once again, thanks for your assistance.

If you didn't select that she is employed she wouldn't have to input her tax reference number from current employer. hence my question.
director of a care home is not a recognised profession on the official list.

]
When selected Self employed as an option, its then asking for "Tax office reference number
You can find this on your payslip or tax return"
I have found below information from gov.uk:
- Please correct me if I'm wrong but for referee of a director of a care home which is a vat registered company.
Referee: recognised professions
director, manager, or personnel officer of a vat registered company
Referee: related to the customer
The person confirming identity must declare their relationship to the customer, and some may tell us they are related to the customer. Customers are told their referee cannot be related to them when they make their application.
We can accept a relationship between a customer and referee, if they are friends, family friends or a relative’s friend or partner (for example, the referee is the partner of the customer’s sister or cousin).
Referee: professions and relationships we cannot accept
A person cannot confirm a customer’s identity if they are:
living at the same address or related
a doctor or General Practitioner (GP), unless they know the customer well (for example, they are a friend, not a patient)
I also know a Doctor who is willing to be a referee, who Is a family friend and knows my MRS for past 5 years. Could that be acceptable for professional referee?

Thank you. For self employed, do we send the bank account statements for a year?
My mrs declared self employed on the 1st of April 2024. Do we send bank statement for April 2023 - April 2024 or April 2024 - feb 2025.
My mrs does not have a business bank account so do we send personal bank account statements?
Once again thank you.

No bank statements required. She can't fill in a self assessment yet, just explain that in a cover letter.

There's no need to provide three years of letters for residence proof. For non-EU applicants like your wife, only a stamped passport is required unless stated otherwise. Additional documents are typically needed only for EU citizens. Since she obtained ILR through the spouse visa route, her travel history should be reflected in passport stamps. However, note that a care home director is not listed as a recognized profession for referees.
