Hello learned Gurus

Am posting on behalf of ex UASC

An unaccompanied minor from Syria come to UK in 2019 and was under section 20 and put in foster care.

He got refugee status for 5 years and now has ILR and due to apply for naturalisation in October 2025.

The government had put a pause on Syrian immigration cases.

Will this affect this young person or can he go ahead and apply?

Do you have any update of this matter.

Thanks
shylady

Should not affect the minor as nationality law and immigration law are separate and I am not aware of a "ban" on cases from Syria for citizenship.

Hello contorted_svy

Thanks for your reply.

Just to clarify there is no ban on cases from Syria but a temporary 'pause' on all cases in regard to syrian national immigration matters

Kind regards
shylady

As I said above immigration and nationality are separate matters under different legislation. The 'pause' you are referring to is to asylum claims from Syria but if child has ILR this pause would not affect a citizenship application.
