Renewing home country passport while UK citizenship application outstanding

Has anyone done this? Do I simply update UKVI once done? Will it complicate the outstanding application and/or eventual UK passport application?

I planned to renew my home passport once the citizenship was decided, and in theory had loads of time, but not long now til the 6 month wait mark. I can wait til 6 months, but beyond that I am then risking not being able to travel due to the limited validity left on my home passport.

That shouldn't be an issue.

People are free to travel while the application is assessed, that includes having a valid passport. There's no need to report UKVI when renewing a passport.

Do I not need to update them with my new passport information? Is my citizenship application not linked to my current passport which needs updating in their system? I know I'd have to update my e-visa, so it would stand to reason I would need to update the pending citizenship application, no? If so, how. If not, why?

And what if it is decided in the narrow window that my U.S. passport might be renewed and before I receive it (therefore uk citizenship approved on old passport which is now invalidated but not yet received new one in mail)?

Citizenship is not immigration!

Your passport (old or new) won't be linked to your citizenship certificate/record when issued.
When you are British you are British (under UK law) and all that counts is the certificate and passport which you can then get.
UK is not concerned with your other nationalities. Your eVisa is then meaningless no need to update.

I am aware that once a UK citizen with a UK passport it doesn't matter. However I am not a citizen with a UK passport. I am on ILR with an open citizenship application. Which has my valid home passport information linked to it. And when I apply for a British passport, I will have to send my home passport in with the application. So the valid home passport I provide to get my UK passport will in theory need to be the valid passport provided in my UK citizenship application. Which is what I am considering renewing.

And so I am asking yet again, does it have bearing on my outstanding APPLICATION. Assuming my application for citizenship is still open when my home passport is renewed, how do I update my valid home passport information with the home office of UKVI (whoever!) so that it matches what they have on file for me when I am in theory approved for citizenship and go to apply for the UK passport.

You provide passport(s) you have at the time of raising your HMPO application. Which is what I am considering renewing.
