Hello everyone,

My daughter was born in the UK and she is currently on Skilled Worker Dependent Child route. I got my ILR after her birth and her VISA is about to finish on 14-05-2025.

I am just wondering, should I apply for the British Citizenship for her or should I extend her on Skilled Worker Dependent Child route?

Any honest help would be much appreciated. As I have very limited time to decide.

When did you get ILR?

You can apply to register her as British. She does NOT need a valid visa to be able to apply for citizenship.

Once her visa expires, ensure you have adequate medical insurance as NHS will not be free for her.

She is on dependent VISA too and expiring at the same as my daughter.

I got my ILR in August 2023 but till now I didn't realized that I can register her a British Citizen.
Just curious to understand.. whether she breached the immigration law as she will be without VISA untill get a conformation?

The child will be an overstayer once her visa expires yes, which is why you should make sure you have private medical insurance.

Not having a visa does NOT affect the childs entitlement to register as British.

Thank you very much for your advise. Well, I will take a private medical insurance before submitting her BC application. As I have all valid documents to go ahead with British Citizenship application. How likely you think the application will go smoothly?

She has an entitlement to register as British, no issues.
