90 Day Naturalisation Rule!

Hi All,

My wife is due to apply for naturalisation in Nov this year (currently under spouse dependant visa).

The 90 day residency requirement where you have to be in the UK is applicable to the naturalisation applications or actually when you apply for the British passport?

Secondly, can she apply for the naturalisation and then travel to India until the decision is made or the date for the ceremony comes? Will that absence be counted towards 90 days when leave the country after the naturalisation application (if allowed to leave)?

Thanks in advance

All absence rules apply to naturalization not the passport application which is separate and you will be British then.
Passport is a travel document to which you are entitled to as a British citizen, not an immigration status document.
Travel is ok, after the biometrics appointment. Absences post the application date don’t count for the application so no issue.
Note that sometimes the ceremony is scheduled only a few days after approval so I wouldn’t leave returning until the last minute. Ceremonies are managed by the councils not the Home Office.
