Naturalisation - Partner's Citizenship Certificate - Not Found

Hi All,

I'm applying for UK citizenship via naturalisation after under 1 year of ILR, and my wife is a UK citizen. In the form though, there is a place where they ask for Citizenship certificate number. My wife is unable to find her citizenship certificate unfortunately, and we've tried all means of contacting UKVI / HMPO and are unable to retrieve the number. The only way for her is to apply for a new citizenship certificate by paying 428 pounds.

Shall I submit the application with a note on the form where it asks for Partner's citizenship certificate reference number and say something like "Applied for new certificate and will submit number" ? Or alternately, shall I wait for a couple of months until the new certificate is available and then submit my naturalisation application?

Will not submitting a certificate number now and only sending the number later choosing one option over the other impact the outcome / decision?

I suggest you wait until obtain a copy of the certificate before you apply and supply that. Make sure you store that in a sfae place going forward.

Thanks for the input. We've lost the certificate but luckily my wife found the number and the photocopy of the form. In the meanwhile, she has also applied for a new citizenship certificate with her new surname post-marriage. However this new certificate might take 4-6 weeks to arrive, and I would not want to wait so long before applying.

So, on the online form should I add the existing certificate number and make a note in the application that we've applied for a new certificate? Or should I not make any notes and apply as-is without a note. I'm sure UKVI will have this in their records and be able to identity the old certificate with her maiden name.

Employer Letter for Naturalisation Application?

Hi, I am a non-EEA national applying for UK citizenship via naturalisation. I am married to a British citizen and I need to only prove 3 years of continuous residence in the UK. For this I am planning to share:

1. All pages of passport and stamps
2. P60s / Payslips - for all the 3 years

Do I also need to include a letter from my employer as well with my application? I have had the same employer for 6 years. Also, if I need the employer letter - do I need to ensure that the occupation name I put on the online application form matches the job title on the letter? For e.g., the title on the HR letter usually is generic grade "Vice President" (I work in finance and this is common), while on the form I am thinking of adding more detail like "Vice President (Data Scientist - Compliance) which is closer to my actual job. Would that work or will the name difference cause any issues?

1. Fine.

2. You do NOT need these documents if your passport is stamped.

You do NOT need employer letters!!!

Her name wont be changed on the naturalisation certificate. Not sure why you believe it will be. The naturalisation cert is like a birth certificate, it can't be changed. She was granted citizenship at a point where her name was her maiden name.

It is a British passport only that is name changed if you want to after marriage.

I would advise you wait for a few weeks until you have the actual document in your hands before you apply. You will need to submit a copy of it before the biometrics appointment - you can't submit the copy of the one you lost. The certificate won't be released to your wife in her married name so not sure why she requested it like that.

Thanks both for your detailed reply. I think I understand the situation better now and I was confused earlier.
I have a couple of updates:

1. Today, we actually today managed to find an image of the old certificate we had lost.
2. Also, I called UKVI and asked to check when the duplicate citizenship certificate will arrive - and they said up to 10 weeks and there is no way to track this application/timeline on the portal and we just need to wait. Also, you are correct in they said that it will be an exact duplicate, i.e., everything will be the same and it will be in the same name and my wife's maiden name.

Given the long timeline, I am wondering now that we have found an image of the old certificate we could submit the form, upload the image and mention in a covering note/letter to UKVI in the application that we have applied for a duplicate as well which is in progress?

As I have said above - wait for the actual certificate a d make a copy of that. Why submit a copy of a certificate that was list and tell HO that you are waiting for a replacement. Just wait and apply, 10 weeks is a reasonable time.
