You can start to draft your application about six weeks before you’re eligible. Then submit when you’re ready. Absences are counted back from the submission date. Biometrics is just part of the process. When you’re approved you can book a ceremony. Council will normally contact you when they have your certificate. You can also book a private ceremony for a fee. Not every council offers private.
Note you’re only British once the ceremony has been completed. The email is only advisory.

The application is submitted on the day you pay, not when you attend biometrics, and all your requirements will be assessed looking at your submission date. You can submit on the 6 January 2026 or after. It's a different process than Visas and ilr.
