Hello

My child born on 05/10/2025. At the time of his birth I am on the ILR I mean from September 2022 I am on the ILR.

Questions:

1. I am thinking that I can apply for a British passport directly for my child ?
2. Will filling out the British passport for my child it's asking 'Do you have a naturalisation or registration certificate?' Can I fill it as No or do I need this for before applying
3. When I fill it as 'No' for the above question and proceed with application then it's asking grand parents details. Do I need to provide that?

Thanks in advance

Hello

My child born on 05/10/2025.In the UK?? At the time of his birth I am on the ILR I mean from September 2022 I am on the ILR.

Questions:

1. I am thinking that I can apply for a British passport directly for my child ? YES - if child was born in the UK.
2. Will filling out the British passport for my child it's asking 'Do you have a naturalisation or registration certificate?' Can I fill it as No or do I need this for before applying NO - your child's claim to British citizenship is the fact you were on ILR at time of birth. Use your proof of ILR - and don't loose it!!
3. When I fill it as 'No' for the above question and proceed with application then it's asking grand parents details. Do I need to provide that? NO - your child is not British through parentage.

Thanks in advance
Again, important to know whether child was born in the UK!

Thanks for your quick reply,

It's definitely asking the grandparents' details. The only problem I have is that I don't have their marriage certificate. Do they ask me to provide any documents with respect to them?

Regards,
Sav

One more thing on my dad passport, he doesn't have a Surname. But actually, he has the surname as his father's name. So can I provide his father name in the lastname column?

Regards,
Sav

The form wants to cover all possible bases. Ignore the grandparents details. If your child was born in the UK after you got ILR that is their claim to British citizenship.
