ILR with a criminal record and looking to apply for my British passport

Hi everyone,

I got my ILR in July 2021, and I am looking to apply for my British citizenship, but I've got a criminal record. I was convicted in 2015 to do community service, which was later changed to a custodial sentence because I did not attend my community service. The custodial sentence was for 4 weeks, and I was in for 2 weeks. It will be 10 years next month since the conviction. I would appreciate any advice on how to handle this.

Thanks

You can't get a British passport without receiving citizenship first.

A short custodial sentence is not going to preclude getting British citizenship on its own, but you should demonstrate how you haven't reoffended since, and any other activities you my have done that testify to your changed character (eg you volunteer in the community, you regret your actions).

Have you had any other run in with the law after that?
