Can I add my daughter to my Naturalisation application

Dear Sir/Madam,

I received my ILR in July-2023 and applying for naturalisation, Can I able to add my daughter into same application.

My Daughter is staying in UK from Nov-2018 and currently on the Skilled Visa child dependent and her visa expires in Sep-2026.

If both parents had ILR and if one parent is applying for naturalisation, can I add my daughter (9 years old) to parent naturalisation application without child having ILR status?

Thanks & Regards
Vasantha

The child, if born outside the UK, in addition to having one parent on ILR and the other parent either a British citizen or applying to become a British citizen, needs either ILR themselves or have completed 10 years of continuous legal residence in the UK themselves in order to register as a British citizen.

Thanks for your response, so she is not eligible for British Citizenship since we parents didn’t stayed 10 years in UK. So I need to apply an ILR for my daughter and then apply for British citizenship. Correct me if I understood it wrong, thanks in advance.

Daughetr has to have her own ILR OR have lived in the country for 10 years.

On top of that, the parents must both be ILR holders, and one either a British citizen or applying to become one.

Thanks for the quick response, one final question. What if both parents got British citizenship and daughter is still on Skilled visa child dependent (from Nov-2018) , still needs to meet the 10 years or ILR criteria?

I am just exploring options if there is any way I can skip the ILR ( to save the £3k) for my daughter and get the British citizenship directly. Thanks in advance for your answer.

There is no option to skip ILR or 10 years residence for your daughter. This is the expectation for children born abroad.

You'd have to make a "compelling compassionate case" (which saving 3k isn't) in order to request that the normal expectations for registering a child born outside the UK as a British citizen be set aside.

But you can try to register your child without ILR or 10 years legal residence and get back to us to let us know if you were successful. If you succeed, we can start advising others to skip ILR too.

On the other hand, if you fail, you'll end up paying for two registrations (the first one failing and the second one successful) and one ILR (inbetween the two).

The decision is yours. We can only provide advice on what the guidance for registration of children as British citizens says. Read from Page 19 onwards, as the earlier provisions won't apply to you.

In that document, references to "settled" or "settlement" means having ILR.
