Hello. Posting this query after going through the thread on this similar topic and could not find a situation explained where I am at the moment.

So I have received my ILR back in 2025. My Spouse and child are completing 10 years in Apr'26. My son will complete 10 continuous and lawful years in UK. I will be applying ILR for my Spouse. I wanted to understand if I can directly apply for British Citizenship for my child through MN1 application. I was going through MN1 guidance and could see below eligibility section fitting to my situation. Need your help in confirming the same.

Children who have lived in the UK for more than 10 years
Children will come within this category if:
Guide MN1
17
• the child is in the UK lawfully
• the parents are in the UK lawfully
• both parents give their consent to registration (unless good reasons are provided)
• there is no reason to refuse on character grounds.

As your child has completed 10 years living in the UK, they should be able to register under Section 3(1) before their 18th birthday, as the guidance excerpt you've quoted states.

Note that this is a relatively new (less than 2 years) provision and we don't have much knowledge of this provision. So give us feedback on how it goes.

Also keep in mind that a registration application (which is not an immigration application) does not extend legal stay in the UK if the visa expires while it is being processed.

When does your son's current visa/leave to remain expire?

Thanks for your response. another query, Like for ILR, one can apply 28 days in advance, Can the same be done for MN1 application? or it has to be applied after completing 10 years?

The 28 days early concession applies only to immigration applications.

MN1 citizenship is not an immigration application.
