Hello. I have been in the UK for almost 8 years. This forum has been a great help through all my applications for my different visas.
I got my ILR on the 02/10/08 , always been legal in the country.
I was wondering what is the next step to get the British Passport.
Do I need to get the British Naturalisation before applying for the First British Passport? If so how do I do it?
I had taken the Life in the UK test, which was a requirement to get my ILR.
If you could be kindly enough to give me some advice on the above, it will be really appreaciated.
Many thanks,
Andrea

You have to qpply for naturalisation as a British Citizen before you can apply for a passport as a passport is just a travel document issued to a citizen, which you only become when you are naturalised see the link below

you still need your original Life in the UK test pass Certificate as you do need to send this with your application

Many thanks for your reply. I remembered last year paying like £750 for the ILR, do I need to pay again £720 for the naturalisation?
I thought it was just one payment

Unfortunately yes - you will have to pay. Naturalisation is a separate application and is unrelated to ILR.

Many thanks for all your help. I have been checking the application and how important are the referees....does it really have to be a doctor or a minister, or solicitor? can it be a professional or has to be one of those?
Many thanks
