South African needing to apply for Citizenship

Hi all,

Terribly sorry for the long email but I am desperate to get some help with my situation as I cannot afford a solicitor for this and my case is so complicated that I have got no idea what to do?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Story so far...

I currently hold a South African passport and wish to apply for dual nationality and for naturalisation as a British citizen.

I firstly came to the U.K on the 27th July 2002 on a working holiday visa and then married my (British/South African fiancée) on the 19th July 2004. I received my marriage visa on the 20th July 2004. I was granted my Residence Permit on the 27th June 2006 but unfortunately 5 months later, due to his adultery I divorced him and received my Decree Absolute on the 22 November 2006. So married for 2years and 4months.

I’ve currently held my indefinite leave to remain/Residence Permit status since 27th June 2006 ( 3.5years) and have managed to find two references to help me complete the application. One being a British Citizen, the other Pakistani with a MBA qualification.

However, my greatest concern is the fact that I had to file for bankruptcy on the 21st January 2008 and was granted an early discharge 6 months later 24th July 2008. I believe the Home Office does not grant Citizenship if still undischarged, however I've been discharged for 2years so it shouldn't be a probrem but i would like to know if this situation might still effect my application, if at all.

Question is though: How would I fill out the questions on the application and would it be successfull?
