Question for British nationality experts out there!

My father-in-law was born in the "Colony of Singapore" (as per his birth certificate), in June 1949. He is currently a Singapore citizen, but does he have access to any form of British nationality?

Many thanks.

Does he have any ties to the UK or a place that remained a colony after Singapore became independent?

Hi JAJ,

No, I'm afraid the only tie (if you can call it that) is me (British citizen). I am the husband of his daughter which I suspect means nothing.

Other than that, no. No ties to the UK or to any nation other than Singapore.

He would be classified as a British Commonwealth citizen with all the rights that it confers.
Are his parents British or his wife?

All Singapore citizens. None born in the UK.
