Under 18 - no other nationality

Can my son apply for Brit Passport /Citizenship using B(OS) form.
What is confusing me is the "no other citizenship/nationality" clause or requirement.

I am in UK under ancestral visa. Busy applying for ILR. 29th April is our appointment. We have been in UK 5 years. However my son who is my dependant on the Visa will turn 18 before 1 year under ILR is served.
Also his SA passport is expired and we have no interest renewing it. We tried but have given up as he also needs to apply for ID book.
So problem is he wants to get his drivers licence and go on college trips etc. (which he can't do with expired South African passport)It will also be expensive him applying for Brit Passport when 18 as adult.

His paternal father is British and my son was born in 1992. It appears son could use this to get British Citizenship but he already has South African nationality and this seems to disqualify him for Brit Citizenship?
Am I wrong or is there a work around?
Or do we just accept he has to wait another year?

Hope I have put in enough details?

thanks.

What do you mean by paternal father? Grandfather?

If his father is British by birth, and not by decent (ie his father was born in UK) then ur son is British.

I am not and never was married to his biological father.
My son's bio father tells me he has a British Passport - but I am not sure if he was born in UK(or Zimbabwe) or is British by descent. Would make a difference?
