Company directors have to file tax return every year. They are not self employed. A self employed is a person who is a sole trader or partner etc but not a limited company director. A director himself could be "employed" by their own company and get paid. You will know what arrangement you have for your company.

not taking any salary but working as a company director and paying tax annually. what documents should be attached with naturalization application as the guidance says 'tax returns for self-employed only'.

Guidance is only guidance, there is too much else to it, lol.
You can attach your company's corporation tax return, your own self assesment return. Just think that you are going to a bank (which is not your own bank) to ask for a mortgage and you need to prove your income and standing to them. The documents that would work there, would work for your naturalisation. You accountant is the best person to clarify this further.
