Dear All

I am currently in UK on HSMP/Tier-1 workpermit.

I plan to do a 1-year MBA from INSEAD (France) after getting my ILR in 2011. After completing MBA, I intend to come back to UK and resume my career. Since I will be away for most of 12-month period after securing ILR, can I still apply for citizenship or do I have to wait for another 12 months. Please clarify.

Thanks for prompt reply sushdmehta.

I've gone through this page earlier as well as "Discretion on immigration time restrictions" at
http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/briti ... trictions/

One of the Discretion clauses is: "there are compelling business or compassionate reasons to approve your application".

Will an MBA come under compelling business reason?

Thanks again,

:)
Perhaps, if your employer certifies that they are sponsoring your education as part of *mandatory* professional development and that they will be unable to continue your employment unless you complete (pass) the program.

See Nationality Instructions -> Chapter 18: Naturalisation by discretion -> Annex B: The residence requirements to understand more about discretion wrt naturalisation.
