I have been living in the Uk since the age of 10 and i am now 21years of age. Due to problems with my parents and their relations since i came from a step family i was left to fend for myself from the age of 17. My passport has an indefinite leave to remain stamp but it expired in 2005 and i had no one to renew it as no one cared what became of me by then. I could have opted to return home but my mother who was my last known relative died a year earlier thus leaving me totally helpless. Since my passport expired i have been trying to find employment and employers wont employ me with an expired passport but in 2008 Alliance and Leicester employed me for a year without a problem. after being made redundant i went to barclays bank to seek employment and they kicked me out of the room like a bad smell because my passport had expired. I thought i was still entitled to work since i have an indefinite leave to remain stamp. I cant get a job to pay for naturalisation and i am on my knees with debt. I have managed to stay in education since and i am now in university going into my second year. Even getting a loan and enrolling me to university became a difficult process because everyuone gets confused when assessing my employability or eligibility to be in the Country. I have never claimed benefits and i slave for all i have. how do i raise funds to pay £800 for naturalisation when i cant be employed? i'm stuck.

ILR doesn't expire with passport. However, it could have been cancelled or revoked.

Best to get a new passport from your embassy. See also Transferring your visa to a new passport.

If necessary, ask your prospective employers to use the Employer checking service.
