Hello
Would the path to citizenship policy by the Labour govt still be in place next year? Or has it been abolished by the new govt?

A consultation has taken place but the Government has yet to decide how any new rules should be formulated.
And for the record, given the consultation was put in place by the former Labour Government, that Government had not totally decided what to do on the issue, hence the consultation.

I really have no idea, and haven't seen any Government announcements (or even leaks) that give us any clue whatsoever.
We shall just have to wait.

I don't think citizenship will be capped. My solicitor doesn't seem to think so although he said it would probably be some type of probationary citizenship (a tough points system perhaps).

According to Theresa May in her first major speech .
Theresa May described the previous government's proposed policy of earned citizenship as 'too complicated, bureaucratic and, in the end, ineffective
Invariably that means the present govt will look for alternative and discard the proposed citizenship

Dont get too excited very soon, their new proposal will be more tough than earned citizen, that's for sure. Certainly there will be no eligibility of UK citizenship just for being employed in the UK for 5yrs!

The Home Secretary has actually made an announcement today ....
So more detail still awaited but at least we know that "earned citizenship" will not happen.
