Hi:

I've lived in the UK since Feb 2003, first as a student, then upon completion of studies, as a workpermit holder since Sep 2005. In Sep 2010 I applied for ILR on the basis of being a workpermit holder for 5 continuous years and was granted ILR the same day. I've read through the UKBA website for procedures for applying for naturalisation / citizenship. Can anyone advise me on what the procedures are? I took my Life in the UK test for my ILR application and passed it. I understand I need to wait for a minimum of 12 months after ILR before applying. Can anyone tell me when I need to apply, how, and if I need to do any voluntary work or fundraising to earn extra points? Thanks

Standard requirements
How do I apply for naturalisation as a British citizen?

Subject to the rules not changing before you become eligible for naturalisation in September 2011.

Going by the current regulations you can apply for citizenship on/after September 2011, obviously if you meet the rest of the requirements. However as you said there will be changed before then ( July 2011), what are these changes? I don’t think anyone can answer this question!, because nothing is official just yet, just theories.
Just keep checking the UKBA website for further information; I doubt that they would release any information before April 2011.

Good luck.
