lost ID cardand not registered

hi there, I'm at the end of my tether so thought I'd try for some advice here.
I came into this country to come and live with my mother when I was 14 from Italy , my father gave me an ID card which turns out to have been a temporary 1 provided by AIRE that students use to go abroad. I lost this card many years ago and am now desperatly trying for a passport.the problem is my mother didn't register me when I came into the UK. I now am in the process of getting registration,but they now want my ex husbands date of birth,which I don't remember and have no way of getting hold of that information
I plan to travel to the USA in May and am getting increasingly worried that my passport won't arrive on time. can anyone please advice me
