Unfortunately have been caught by TV licensing, for not having a tv licence. No excuses, it ran out and I didn't renew it. It went to court and I was ordered to pay a fine.

Will this affect my application for citizenship next year?

Watching TV without a valid licence is a criminal offence. If it's the only criminal offence you have commited the HO may use it's discretion and approve your applicatio. Otherwise you will have to wait till the offence is spent - which 5 years from date of conviction.
