Firstly, I want to commend all those who out of their busy schedule have kindly replied any post on this forum in general. Very much appreciated. I have been a member of this forum right from my student days back in 2004 through my 5yrs of working status and now presently permanently resident. So I really express my gratitude to all those replies recieved based on my queries back then.

I will be eligible for the british citizenship by September this year and I have pretty much been on the good side of the law with nothing to worry about. I had a driving offence speed fine back in 2005 and the conviction have been cleared and " spent " . It doesnt appear on my driving licence paper part any more as far back in 2009. Other than that no brush with the law in UK authorities in any shape or manner.

However, I recently recieved a letter from a Balliff company requesting me to pay £350 for a distress warrant from Magistrate court " A". Prior before this, I have not recieved any correspondence concerning this warrant so I was quite bemused.

I started my investigation towards this matter knowing fully well that this might or might not affect my intended naturisation application. My first point of call was to get in touch with Balliff firm and enquire more. They bluntly wont say more than what I said above i.e warrant for an unpaid magistrate fine back in August 2005. They don't have anymore info other than that.

This led me calling the magistrate court "A" and they could not give me any info as well. In fact they told me this case of mine was transferred from another court and I should get in touch with that court " B ".

I did as I was told and court " B " wont help either. Rather, they said they do not have my details on their system, the ref nos dont match theirs, the balliff firm in question is not the balliff firm they use for their operations and above all they dont have my name on their system.

I went back phoning court " A " to relay the message and they couldnt do nothing more than that. They however told me to get in touch with central accounting office CAO.

Again, I did as I was told. I called and this time around they gave me more info concerning this case. I was told it was a fine for an unpaid train ticket back in 2005.

Now, the details are correct i.e name plus addy and I dont dispute that however, I do not have any clue or iota of knowledge about this journey or fine being 6yrs ago. And what is more surprising is the fact that I never recieved any correspondence about this fine at my old places of residence. I explained to the CAO staff what my concerns are that anyone could have used my name at my former residential places and I dont quite recollect all this happening. She then advised to go into any magistrate court and do a statutory declaration that I dont know any thing about the fine. This doesnt mean the case is closed but it stops the balliff firm from executing any action against me. I dont have to pay them a penny however, the original court ( which no one can tell me at the moment) will have the choice to reopen it or close it fully.

I have an appointment with my local magistrate court " C " to do this 5mins task.

My question is will this affect me in anyway for my intend british citizenship application?

I will appreciate any replies please.

have you contact the rail company? have you checked your credit record? why is the fee so high? do you usually take the train? have you ever lost your license?

i'd do more investigation before signing anything
