I'm new and I am wondering if anyone can help me with this question. I'm a US citizen and I'd like to become a dual national.

I was born in the US in 1971 and adopted at birth to parents with US citizenship. My biological mother is (and was) a UK citizen by birth. My biological father later became a naturalized UK citizen.

My grandparents (both biological and legal--long story) were UK citizens at the time of their death, but they obtained passports because they were born in South Africa and Southern Rhodesia in 1905-6.

Does anyone know if this route is possible or what I'd have to do if it is?

Since you were born before 1983, then since 2009, persons born (outside the UK) to British mothers can register as British citizens by descent.

I think your (biological) father is not relevant for this because he was not British at the time of your birth.

Do you have cooperation from your biological mother and access to her passports, birth certificate etc.?

Do you have your birth certificate? If your biological mother appears on your birth certificate then I think you can apply for registration. However, I'm not 100% certian if and how how adoptation affects this
