my father ,genetically,indian;acquired BC in 1968.he expired as a BC in 1992 while residing in india.

How did your father acquire British citizenship (probably CUKC at the time)?

my father was appointed by the british government in 1966 as an inland revenue inspector.he married an indian with indian passport in 1972 .his marriage was registered in REDBRIDGE.he left the job in 1973 and eversince lived in india ,where i was born.i remember the year he expired in a road accident he had BC.

But how did he get British Citizenship? Merely being a Tax Inspector does not make him British?

Did he apply for Naturalisation? If so, have you got his Certificate of Naturalisation?

So you are saying he lived in the UK during the last 60s and went back to live in India during the 70s?
I think it is importnat to find out whether he also acquired the "right of abode". If so, then I beleive you are a British Citizen (by Descent) and can claim a passport because you were born after he became a citizen.
Do you have his old British passport? Can you verify whether the line "right of abode" exists or deleted there?
Do you have his naturalization certificate?

when my father was invited for the post through british civil commission,he had indian passport . he applied for BC in late 60's during his stay in britain.he got BC while he was there. yes,i have his old british passport.

So what does the passport say? Is it "Citizen of the UK & Colonies"?
Can you find any reference or line relating to the "right of abode"?

first-please tell me the word "naturalisation"applies in my case???

Back then (in the 60 and 70s) the term British Citizen did not really exist in the sense it does today because it is based on a nationality law from 1981.
The term used was Citizen of the UK & Colonies (CUKC) based on the 1948 nationality law.
The right to abode means the right to freely move in and out of the UK. Basically, the basic right of alll British citizens today.
The current nationality law (basically based on the 1981 law) states that if your father was both a CUKC (which he was) and had the right to abode back in 1981 then it means he was also regarded as a British citizen after 1981 and hence also you.
It sounds to me that he was considered a British citizen and therefore you too BUT it would still require further checks.
Sometimes, old CUKC passports have a right to abode sticker or line on them confirming their status.

IF SUPPOSE EVERYTHING IS IN MY FAVOUR, DOES THE TIME PERIOD (20 YEARS),WHICH HAS PASSED ,CREATE ANY PROBLEM IN GETTING BC IN MY CASE.

I think that since your father naturalized and was registered in the UK before your birth that would make you a British citizen from birth. Perhaps try and apply for a British passport with all your evidence and documents.

Veeraraman, there is a positive chance for you to get British citizenship. But please don't expect forum members to answer every question popping in your head.
