Old passport validity times

Hello,

I need some help with regards to official status between now and the ceremony. I have been granted BC and have received an invitation letter to attend the ceremony. I have not arranged a date yet. What I am inquiring is whether I can still travel with my old (Lithuanian) passport within Europe between now and the ceremony. Also, is it possible to travel with your old passport after you had the ceremony and before you have sent the passport off when applying for the new (British) one.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Until the ceremony you are not British so you can travel with your other passport.

I'm not sure if Lithuania allows dual citizenship or not. From the UK side, dual nationality is allowed and it doesn't matter which passport you use to enter and leave the UK.

If dual nationality is not allowed by Lithuania, then after the ceremony you will not be able to legally use the passport if you stop being a Lithuanian citizen (but you will need to check what the rules are exactly).

Thanks for the answer, I think you are correct - after the ceremony you do become British, so travelling with another country's passport sounds illegal. Will ring the Border Agency just to double-check.

No, Lithuania does not allow dual citizenship. I guess I have to book the ceremony on 87th day. A bit risky bust still within 90 days.

Councils do not hold ceremonies every day. Well not unless you have a private Citizenship Ceremony, which will cost you extra.

There is a possible ambiguity in what you post, concerning :-

(My emphasis)

Simply, when you say "old", do you mean "expired"?

Possible to travel on an unexpired Lithuanian passport before the ceremony. Not possible afterwards.

No, the Lithuanian one is still valid for three years...

The council I'm having ceremony at carries out the service every Friday. So it (87th day) would be actually the last Friday to take the ceremony...

If the passport application process wasn't so lengthy I would have considered having the ceremony sooner. But because of the extra interview etc. there is no guarantee I will get a new passport before the planned holiday in March...
